Smash Bang Pow winter schedule

I’ve been working on yet a new identity concept for Danish booking agency Smash Bang Pow. Here’s the first fruits of that labour. First off, it is to be used for their winter line-up posters and flyers. The graphic has been created using asdf-sort Processing scripts.

Design concept for HYMN

During the summer I’ve been working on extending the visual identity for Hymn, which is now one of Sweden’s biggest online magazines for new music. The identity has been broadened to include co-branding, or events presented by Hymn. That could e.g. be a concert where the band takes prominence over the brand. Eventually, the plan is to introduce further colours into the palette. The concept is designed to handle unique band logos or layouts using varying fonts – shown here are Sectra and Haptik Rotalic from Grilli Type, as well as Playtype’s good old Signature. The stroke becomes an active element, shown in the slide below.

The basic design relies on monochrome photos with burnt out backgrounds.

In cases where suitable images cannot be found, the follow layout should be used.

Suggestions for three new secondary colours.

Inherent Vice

This year’s best movie so far, Inherent Vice, also sports some of the finest looking titles I have seen in a while. They’re done by Scarlet Letters and according to Movie Title Stills Collection, typed in Rolling Pen and Ne10 (although I’m not conviced about the latter). I wish the script would have been animated as if written however.

Next month, I start an internship at e-Types, my favourite design agency in Denmark. I’m very much looking forward to it, they recently published their work for the new edition of the Roskilde music festival, and hopefully I will get to work on something just as exciting. Image grabbed here.

Melvin Galapon

I just saw on INT that everyone’s favourite Melvin Galapon has added some more work to his website. Here’s old favourite, from a series called Portraits & Lyrics. It’s typical of Galapon’s idom of experimental type and patterns, and depicts some of his favourite artists. Luckily they’re all icon enough for this type of subject matter. Among the new works, the Wave Series is an absolutely stunning method for making pictograms.

Poster series #1

Free time at work means you can spend it on designing pointless things. But having several workplaces this year feels like a good ambition, so hopefully this draft will be the first of a proper series.

Marco Papiro

This is the cover of the new split 7″ on Great Pop Supplement featuring a rare Spacemen 3 outtake coupled with a new Sun Araw cut. It was designed by by Marco Papiro, and I’m also a fan of this.
