September’s Todo Gira

flyer13

We’ll be warming up for Double Sight ’15 in two weeks time, with another Todo Gira. Marcus is also doing the last ever Radio Syd dj set this weekend, so Todo Gira will sadly be the only psychedelic night in Malmö (and Sweden?) after that.

Phasing Out

Phasing-Out

Lauren and me are playing again on Thursday, and I’ve finally caught up with promoting events. Our new name is Phasing Out, and here’s the flyer with a design based on MXR’s classic Phase pedals, the first manufactured in 1974. I also made this little ad below, just for fun. This time the venue is Far I Hatten, and we’ll be playing outside on the amazing wooden bandstand. Just picked up Digging Down Argentina Vol. 2, so expect a few selections from that.

Here’s our old playlist for Shadows & Reflections, if you haven’t subscribed to that yet.

Shadows Reflected

Me and Lauren decided to do one fourth and last Shadows & Reflections event, again under the auspices of Ode to Joy and in one of Malmö’s biggest venues Moriska Paviljongen. I’ve now got the Action RSD box set, so the hunt for “Shadows and Reflections” is over anyway, and we’ve got a new name for future nights. The last S&R happened last month, and it was great fun – thank you everyone who turned up.

Todo Gira

gira

After playing with Marcus at Shadows & Reflections and his own Radio Syd club night, we decided to try putting on our on night. The result was Todo Gira, named after the Los Impala song, and we’ve already done two nights that I, unfortunately, haven’t had the time to update you about. But here at last is the details for our next, and third happening. This time the flyer features Dutch mod icon Bonnie St. Claire. Below are the two first flyers, one featuring a still from Bertolucci’s Partner with Tina Aumont.

Here’s a promo playlist I made for the first event: Todo Gira on Spotify.

Levi Mandel | Lemonade

Toda our flatmate Levi Mandel’s first show in Sweden opens at Galleri Gordon. Levi is an artist working mainly with photography, and most of his work done in Sweden will be on display in the exhibition Lemonade, which runs until the end of the month. He’s been in Sweden since January, studying at Malmö Art Academy, and is going back to New York next month.

Bror Sander Berg Størseth

I’ve seen two interesting exhibitions recently, the first being Berg Størseth’s master degree show at KHM Gallery. The flyer was an animation of squares and circles, printed on plastic and paper, as you can see above. Ejected From an Ion Source closed today, but keep an eye out for news on his website. The most impressive work was an installation of three paintings covered with heat-reactive paint. Three spotlights directed at the respective paintings switched on in sequence, revealing a motif underneath the first layer of each painting.

The other exhibition was Universal Appeal by Dora Budor & Maja Cule at CEO Gallery. It featured video works and some quite fascinating still life photographs of people and objects covered in various types of texture. Here’s one with woodgrain, that unexplainably gave me associations to The Neverending Story (1984).

SIDE 14 | club night

Summer is upon us. Record Turnover returns with another event at På Besök. Connoisseurs of ale and pop music alike pay heed. You’ll get to hear all the fantastic songs I’ve been making lists of since May, in a bar setting. Cuts by Wimple Winch, The Accents and The Kirbys will mingle with The Mystreated, The Event of course, and new sounds from Os Haxixins,  Sea Pinks and The Shrapnelles. And don’t forget to listen to our modcast!

SIDE11 | May 6

Here is the poster for the next, and third, Record Turnover club night. This one will be at the old venue På Besök, and the theme is mod. Come listen to Lynne Randell (in the poster), Roger Young, Herbie Goins, The 5 A.M. Event, The Knack, Diana Dors and sample På Besök’s spring selection of ales and beer.

SIDE1

The first Record Turnover club night will take place at French restaurant and bar Belle Epoque on December 21st, and we’ve promised to play some warming soft rock and folk rock – sorely needed now that we’ve had our first snowfall in Malmö.

This is the flyer and a Facebook event can be found here.
