I’m On the Stereo

Hey, get off the air… I’m on the stereo. Thus sang Stephen Malkmus a long time ago in the group Pavement. He has always been one of my greatest heroes, and now I have helped launched a new brand agency called Stereo. Our website was finally finished last week. Why don’t you check it out?

SIDE 76 | A Is an Alphabet Pt. Z

We’re approaching #100, so I thought, what could be better than dedicating the last 25 numbers to the 25 letters of the alphabet? I’ve introduced a new series of lists on HYMN, compiling songs by artists and bands on each letter. Starting at the end, since X, Y, and Z are always the hardest – I present Part Z here.

The concept is that I simply browse though my folders of music files on my old harddrive and pick songs from each letter – stuff that I haven’t heard in a while or things that may be of interest to the general public. Check out the article on HYMN for the full tracklisting, including comments on each song (in Swedish).

SIDE 72 | club night

Following on from the ’85 in ’15 playlist theme, here’s the reappearance of the Record Turnover club night for one night only. In keeping with the original concept, there will be a unique guest DJ – who has indeed been invited to Record Turnover in the past – Jasmine Berganäs. Saturday next week we will be playing vinyl from 80s indie labels, and some 90s labels. Expect to hear all your favourites from Narodnik, 53rd and 3rd, Bus Stop, Summershine and A Turntable Friend.

And don’t forget to check out the playlist in my previous post.

Sheer Mag in Malmö

Sheer Mag Malmö

Sheer Mag are coming to Malmö, Sweden – finally. I was supposed to see them in Paris, then Copenhagen and finally Malmö tonight. But of course, that never happened as the Paris flight was just a few hours after the attack and we ended up not going. So hopefully, the gig tonight with Nightmen supporting will make up for it. Don’t let oppressors dictate your life.

Here’s a promotional poster I designed for a poster competition, featuring an image by the brilliant photographer Katharina Poblotzki.

Pure Phase

This is the next gig I will doing, after coming back home from Double Sight where I did a short but sweet set alongside people from clubs like Up Club, Mindfuzz, Divine! and other illustrious names. The design was made using a pixel-sorting script for Processing 3. As usual with Phasing Out, the inspiration comes from the Phase 45 pedal originally created in 1975.

Smash Bang Pow winter schedule

I’ve been working on yet a new identity concept for Danish booking agency Smash Bang Pow. Here’s the first fruits of that labour. First off, it is to be used for their winter line-up posters and flyers. The graphic has been created using asdf-sort Processing scripts.

Design concept for HYMN

During the summer I’ve been working on extending the visual identity for Hymn, which is now one of Sweden’s biggest online magazines for new music. The identity has been broadened to include co-branding, or events presented by Hymn. That could e.g. be a concert where the band takes prominence over the brand. Eventually, the plan is to introduce further colours into the palette. The concept is designed to handle unique band logos or layouts using varying fonts – shown here are Sectra and Haptik Rotalic from Grilli Type, as well as Playtype’s good old Signature. The stroke becomes an active element, shown in the slide below.

The basic design relies on monochrome photos with burnt out backgrounds.

In cases where suitable images cannot be found, the follow layout should be used.

Suggestions for three new secondary colours.
